Yesterday, to get out of the city for a little while and give myself a break from my raging allergies, I took the NJ Transit train out to Spring Lake, NJ to visit my awesome friend Kelly, who owns a lingerie store!
Linger is a super cute, super girlie store with a special section just for teens. Kelly and her sister Catherine opened it last year with the intent to make it a place where women could feel good about themselves. They don’t hang up sexy pictures of models wearing the lingerie (like Victoria’s Secret) because no one really wants to be comparing herself to Candice Swanpoel when trying on underwear. Kelly and Catherine are both the kind of totally down-to-earth, funny ladies who instantly make you feel upon meeting them like you can tell them anything, which is exactly why they’re the perfect women to run a lingerie shop.
They’re in the middle of building their online store, and I can’t wait for it to launch because they have impeccable taste and their inventory is beautiful.
I was surprised to see that the boardwalk in Spring Lake was completely destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The town’s been working really hard to clean the sand (it has to be completely sifted before people can walk on the clean areas because there was so much wreckage on the shore after the storm), as well as to rebuild. There’s a brand new clean stretch of boardwalk already constructed, which was heartwarming to see. Anyone who reads my blog knows how much I love the beach, and Spring Lake is a beautiful little town full of Victorian homes and mom & pop businesses. It’s one of my favorite places to go in the summer, and I’m looking forward to making the trip often this year as the season approaches.
